Above is the approximate route we'll be taking around the world. It excludes the pre-trip tip to Canada. We're going west. Slightly unusual for a RTW trip. Beginning in America and working our way via South America, Australasia, Asia, and Russia all the way round back to England.

We're flying into Washington in America. We hired a car in Falls Church, near Washington DC and have so far driven over 10,000 miles. All items marked in Red on the map are major attractions or points of interest we saw. Items marked in Blue are interesting towns we have seen or stayed in. This map will be updated as we move around America.

South America is the land of organised tour for us. Neither Pip nor me speak any spanish (yet) so we weren't quite brave enough to chance it on our own, so from Rio to Quito we have a 64 day tour taking in Iguazzu Falls and Maccu Piccu and various other sites on the way. After that we have a 10 day cruise around the Galapagos islands for a bit of relaxation and diving. From there we have a monstrous series of flights via Guayaquil and Santiago to Easter Island (Rapa Nui). Then another huge flight stretch back to Santiago and then across to New Zealand.

New Zealand and Australia will provide some much needed relaxation time for us after the rigours of South America. We're planning to hire a camper van of some description in New Zealand and make our own way around. We're going to head up the east coast of Australia and then catch a train from Darwin down to Adelaide, stopping off at Alice Springs and Ayers Rock (Uluru), and then fro Adelaide across to Perth. From there we'll fly up to Japan.
